What language should I learn to talk to aliens?

Are there aliens? Can we talk to them? Why is English so popular? What ever happened to French?

If these questions trouble you just as much as they do me then I invite you to listen to my talk at Szczecin University in Poland as I discuss how English became the global lingua franca (essentially a language people speak to communicate between cultures) despite French being so 'powerful' throughout history. I also discuss what could happen to change English's status as the global lingua franca as what we'd have to speak in order to talk to aliens!
